The provided history starts ~1450. The Norse settlements in Greenland were abandoned just prior but the map at least hints at their existence. Additionally, use of the word "conquest" would exclude their late 10th century exploration of eastern North America (if they had gone back that far) simply because they did not stay. Too bad, because it would be hard to imagine that all pre-1492 Europeans were ignorant of the earlier discoveries that resulted in at least one undisputed settlement.
